Lefkada Island amazed me with all the colors of blue and the white beaches. This is Greece, but it looks like the exotic Caribbean. Lefkada is connected to the mainland through a small bridge and can be accessed by car. The island is perfect for couples, families and groups of friends. On the western coast are some of the best beaches. Along the road you have great views, lovely villages and cute restaurants. My favorite beach is Kalamitsi Beach but there are so many other beaches that are worth visiting. I picked some of the beaches I liked the most.
This definately the most populair and scenic beach on Lefkda. It’s situated 45 km south west of Lefkada Town and has an impressive landscape. Porto Katsiki get’s very busy in summer, so if you want a good spot, make sure you be on time. From the carpark there is a path to the viewpoint on the cliff. This is easy to walk and the view is just breathtaking!
When you think that Porto Katsiki was a great beach, then there’s Egremni. This beach 40 km south west of Lefkada Town, is only accessible by a long stairs. Going down is easy, but you have to climb up as well in the blazing sun. You can take some great pictures going down the stairs. The beach has two beachbars and you can rent a sunbed if you want. Time to get an ice cream!
This long beach has a sandy coastline and is easy to reach. Kathisma is about 15 km south west of Lefkada town and is the most developed beach with restaurants, bars, disco’s and hotels. There is a huge parkigplace but in highseason it can be difficult to find a spot. As we prefer the more deserted beaches, we didn’t stay for a long time. But if you like a busy beach with all facilities within reach, then you will enjoy this.
About 10 km south of Lefkada Town is Nikiana, a lovely fishing village. If you on your way to Nidri, just make sure to stop for this beach. Because this beach has pebbles, the water is crystal clear. We hired a sunbed as pebbles are not so nice to lie on. When we visited tis beach in September is was really quiet, just as we like it.
This beach is situated about 40 km south of Lefkada and just a few kilometers from Vasiliki. It’s reachable by taxiboat or car. We did the last one and it wasn’t the easiest way but we liked the adventure. The dirtroad ends after a bumpy ride (just park your car somewhere) and from there you have to walk down a sandy path. After 10 minutes you will see a stairs that goes down to the beach.
Agiofili is a beautiful bay with a beach of white stones and the clearest water you have ever seen. You have to bring food and water yourself because there is nothing except
sun-beds and umbrellas for rent. The only downside to this beach is that it get’s really crowded as every hour arrives a taxiboat to drop off more people. The first taxiboat leaves at 10.00 am so if you want this beach alone, you can get there by car before this time.
Just 15 km south west Lefkada town is my favorite beach of all: Kalamitsi Beach. It’s also called Kavalikefta and offers crystal water, some rock formations to climb on and a quiet beach to relax. There are no facilities on the beach, so bring enough drinks, food and an umbrella for some shade. I found my paradise!
One of the closest beaches to Lefkada town is Pefkoulia. If you drive to the south west it’s a scenic route to this beach. The views are amazing and we stayed for a while to soak it all up. You don’t have to park your car at the main beach as there are a lot of abandoned beaches just a bit further along the road.
