Do you always dream of flying, the wind trough your hair and the feeling of total freedom? When you visit the West Coast of Australia, near the Ningaloo Reef, make sure you don’t miss this. Altough I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who is afraid of heights.
Birds Eye View Ningaloo, situated at Exmouth Airport, offers beautiful scenic vistas seeing the world from a different angle. I did an introduction flight of 1 hour and it was one of the best experiences ever! Flight instructor Gavin is a funny and easygoing guy with passion for flying in his microlight aircraft. After a brief meeting and safety instructions I’m ready for take-off. It’s feels like riding a moped, except this one has wings. All goes very smoothly and before I know, we are far up in the sky. The weather couldn’t be better, we have a clear blue sky and the view from up here is amazing.
After 15 minutes I’m convinced I can’t fall out of this thing so I start to relax and enjoy the view of Cape Range National Park. The contrast between the red ranges and the turquoise reef is breathtaking. As we fly over the reef, I can see clearly rays, turtles and big tiger sharks (not sure if you still want to go swimming after this)
In the right season you can also see dugongs, dolphins, whalesharks and humpbackwhales.
Time flies and before I know we are on our way back. Gavin even let’s me fly for a while. Really awesome experience and with my feet back on the ground it feels like a dream. I want to go again!
