Curaçao is a diverse island with beautiful beaches, historical sites and a vibrant partyscene. All nature lovers should visit the Christoffelpark, situated in the North-West of the island. The park has a rich variety of local flora and fauna. In this park you can climb the Christoffel mountain that’s 372 meters high.
I actually climbed the Christoffel Mountain twice and I would do it a third time. It’s not the most easy hike to the top and that is mostly because of the burning sun and humid air. Be ready to sweat a lot! I recommend to go early in the morning (before 11.00 am) when it’s not so hot yet. Make sure to put on good walkingshoes and bring plenty of water as you are going to need it.
Best way to start is to drive to the park, pay the admission fee and follow your way to the beginning of the mountain. From there, it’s a clear pathway to the top. It will about 1 till 1,5 hour to reach the top, depending how many stops you take. The first part is quite easy to walk and halfway there are already amazing views of the island. The last part of the climb is rocky and steep so watch your steps. Reaching the top you have great views on a big part of the island.
Hiking trails and activities
There are eight hiking trails between an easy stroll and a challenging hike. There are also scenic car routes that take you through bush, around hills and coastline. The park organizes often special activities like a guided park tour, safaris, animal presentations, cave excursions and special trips like full moon walks and sunrise safari’s.
